Imperial Entertainment would not be destroyed, but if Li Lei were to choose to go head-on with them, nobody was going to have a good time.

Skyart Entertainment had already started to go against Imperial Entertainment. While there was no real impact at this point, if the two tigers of the industry were to wage war, there would be collateral damage all around. Pei Ziheng was prepared to suffer losses amounting to thirty years of hard work, and even then he would not let Xia Ling go. Xiao Ling was his, to begin with. What did Li Lei do to deserve her love instead of him?!

Seeing her worried expression, he said in a gentle voice, “Just relax and take care of yourself and the baby. I’ll give you anything you want.”

What else would she want? She pitifully said, “Pei Ziheng, I want that amulet. Are you going to give it to me or not?”

Pei Ziheng’s expression became dark in an instant. So at the crux of it, she was still pining for Li Lei! The thought of digging out her heart there and then to see what color it was flashed through his mind. Why? He was so good to her, but she was still unsatisfied, constantly thinking about Li Lei, Li Lei, Li Lei!

“Amulet?” He gave a sinister laugh before calling Chu Chen, asking for him to bring over a small box. He opened it to reveal the wooden amulet laying quietly in the box.

Xia Ling reached out to take it.

Pei Ziheng blocked her hand and picked up the amulet before she did. “You want this? Let me tell you now... You are never going to get it.” ( B oxnovel.c om )

He walked over to the window, raised his arm, and threw it out.

Xia Ling’s face turned pale. She rushed to the window and looked out, but all she saw was the forest of trees. There was no way to tell where the amulet had landed. She turned to head downstairs immediately, not even stopping to say a word to Pei Ziheng.

Pei Ziheng caught her before she could go anywhere. “Stay here quietly!”

“Let go of me!” She was furious and struggled to push him away. Yet, Pei Ziheng’s body was immovable like a sturdy mountain. Xia Ling raised her head to look at him. “Let me go to find the amulet!”

He pressed his lips together and refused to let her go.

Xia Ling continued to push and hit him, her emotions getting more flustered by the minute. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. Yelping out in shock, she held her abdomen and doubled over in pain.

“Xiao Ling!” Pei Ziheng’s expression was filled with anxiety as he helped her to the small sofa by the side to sit down. He half-knelt and asked, “What happened? Are you feeling discomfort anywhere?”

Beads of cold sweat broke out on her forehead from the pain, and it took a while for the pain to subside.

The child... was the child okay? She worried about the child, while simultaneously worrying about the amulet that was thrown out of the window. Her voice trembled as she said through gritted teeth, “I want the amulet.”

“In this condition, you’re still pining for that broken piece of wood?!” Pei Ziheng said angrily. “Come, I’m bringing you to see the doctor!” He bent over and carried her from the sofa and headed down the stairs.

Xia Ling feebly struggled in his arms again. “Amulet...”

Her sickly pallor stopped Pei Ziheng from saying anything harsh to her. Regardless, he was going to make sure that nothing untoward came to the child she was carrying. He frowned and said as patiently as he could manage, “You ignored Li Lei today, so you clearly understand that it’s better to have a clean break earlier rather than later. Since you’ve already decided to break it off with him, why are you still holding on to his old gift?”

This was she, the woman he loved deeply.

If it were any other woman who was by his side while thinking about another man, he would make her pay in the cruelest of ways. Yet, he could not bear to hit or scold Xia Ling. His hands were bound with her.

Xia Ling’s hand held onto her abdomen protectively. She still wanted to find the amulet as a keepsake for herself, and to pass on to her child in the future. By now, Pei Ziheng had carried her to the first floor, causing many passersby to look on with shock, interest, jealousy, envy, and other expressions written on their faces. Pei Ziheng ignored them all and walked straight towards his Rolls-Royce, driving away from the forest.

Sweat broke out on her forehead as her abdomen started to hurt again in her anxiety.

“Give me the amulet...” She muttered with difficulty. “This amulet is from my brother... it’s for protection... Ah, it hurts... ”

Her slender, fair fingers gripped tightly onto his expensive shirt as she writhed in pain.

Pei Ziheng stopped in his tracks. “Your brother?”

“Mmhmm...” It was getting harder and harder for her to speak. “Li... prayed for it. But it was made by my brother and is said to ensure my safety and health. My brother is a preceptor... the amulet is very effective...” She had to take a deep breath after every few words, only managing to finish her sentence after much difficulty.

Pei Ziheng did not believe these kinds of things originally. What preceptor? What effective?

He had always thought that they were ploys by the frauds in the market.

However, he had investigated the preceptor, Xia Moyan, for Xiao Ling awhile back. Even though he did not find him, but the hearsay suggested that many wealthy families were wary of offending him. Whenever anything untoward happened to them, they would try all ways and means to find him to help them interpret and mitigate the situation.

It was better to be safe than sorry.

He lowered his head to look at the woman lying in his arms. He saw that she was in such pain that beads of sweat kept forming on her forehead. He worried that she would keep thinking about the amulet, and in turn harm her and the child’s health. He was also afraid that the amulet was indeed effective...

After a moment, he said, “I will get someone to find it. Relax now and don’t worry. I’ll bring you to the hospital, don’t harm the child. When I’ve found the amulet, I’ll tell you.”

Xia Ling relaxed a little after hearing his words and felt the pain in her abdomen subside.

Pei Ziheng brought her to Huaxin Specialist Hospital and looked for Senior Zhang. Senior Zhang gave her a thorough check-up before saying, “There’s nothing serious. There was just some instability brought about by her becoming too agitated. Just make sure to stay calm as much as possible.” After which, Senior Zhang gave her a few prescriptions to help with relaxation.

It was only now that Pei Ziheng breathed a sigh of relief. He accompanied Xia Ling back home and watched as she took the medication.

With time to catch her breath, Xia Ling remembered about the amulet. “Have you found it yet?”

Pei Ziheng barely held in his anger on hearing her question. He breathed in a deep breath, conscious that he had to be sure not to agitate Xia Ling. “It’s found.”

Xia Ling wanted to see it, so he took it out for her to see.

“Can I... can you return it to me?” She looked up at him and asked cautiously. “Otherwise, it will be hard for me to remain calm.”

She seemed to be testing his limits since she was carrying his child. Pei Ziheng felt as if his principles were increasingly disappearing in front of her. He was quiet for a moment before saying, “Okay.”

He handed the amulet to her.

Her expression was as if she had just received the most precious gift as she carefully hung the amulet around her neck.

Seeing the peace and joy on her face from getting the amulet, Pei Ziheng felt sour and bitter. In this life, he had always been the dominant one and never felt like a loser. However, at this moment, he was unsure. In Xiao Ling’s heart, he was clearly no match for that other man.

He clenched his fists behind his back.

She was his woman and was carrying his child. Yet, she relied on Li Lei’s amulet for protection and to keep herself calm. The situation was so ridiculous to him that it was almost funny.
